RADIANT BEAMS BLOG

Peace and Hollyhocks

I’ve been feeling pretty punk these last few weeks as election “stuff” intensifies. Someone stole our yard sign; a moderator on a TV debate treated our President worse than a dog; and eww!  Winter’s coming. Pttuuii!

But then my sweet, 90-year-old neighbor mentioned again how much she loved the French hollyhocks I had put in her birthday bouquet. She said she wanted to grow some, too. So I brought it over a bouquet of them with a suggestion to put them upside down in a paper sack when they were done blooming, and catch the seeds in the bottom.

She was so delighted,…

Staring Into the Abyss, Slipping Slowly Into Madness

I am Technologically Impaired. Electronic gizmos are all a mystery to me.

We have a DVR that records TV shows and displays who is on the phone when the phone rings (how DO it KNOW?). It feels deluxe to have a neat device like that in our home.

But, minor details, I can’t take advantage of that fabulous feature because I don’t exactly know how to turn the TV on. That is key. With three remotes, I don’t even exactly know how to change the darn channel. I used to know at least that much, before we “upgraded.” (I hate that word!)

So to me,

Bosom Buddies

It started when a mutual friend ordered one of my charity bouquets to be delivered to a darling, tiny little woman who lives a few miles from me, Marie. She became a widow this past summer after 59 years of marriage. I really enjoyed meeting her. We have so much in common. We’ve become fast friends. (Note: That’s not us in the picture; she doesn’t use a cane and I have more silver in my hair than she does!)

I always leave Marie’s home uplifted and happy, even though she gets tears in her eyes talking about her beloved hubby,
