Did a dumb thing: pulled weeds in an unfamiliar part of our little acreage at dusk. The light was so dim, I could barely tell which were weeds, and which were my precious, wanted plants.

After filling the can, I came back inside and went about Suzy Homemaker tasks for a while. Then I went to change into my jammies.

Only then did I see that I had about 5,000 sticky burrs on the back of my shirt. It would probably take me an hour to pluck them all off!

It reminded me how, lots of times, “weeds” like sins of all kinds will stick onto you when you don’t even realize it, just because you went near to them. It takes you 10 times as long to pluck those sins off yourself, than if you had just kept your eyes open enough to see them and avoid them before they could stick on you. Gotta be vigilant.

Also reminded me of the “wheat and tares” story in the Bible – how Jesus will eventually separate His believers from everybody else, and keep us, and not them. When the roll is called up yonder, and the Lord gets out those holy sticker-pluckers, hope I land in a keeper bundle. Hope you do, too.

Let both grow together until the harvest:
and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers,
Gather ye together first the tares,
and bind them in bundles to burn them:
but gather the wheat into my barn.

Matthew 13:30
