I’m really inspired by an ad hoc Christian ministry that two Omaha women have quietly been doing for a year. I found out about it when a Facebook friend, Tish Salcedo Johnson, ordered one of my bouquets that benefit www.RejuvenatingWomen.com. She had it delivered as a birthday surprise for her friend and fellow Bible study leader, Paula Brenneman.

That’s Paula with the flowers, and here’s Tish.

Let me tell you about Paula and Tish. They are shining examples of how GOODNESS is still operating, big time, in our world. They teach a weekly Bible study in Omaha for special-needs individuals, called “Citizens of Heaven.” Because of covid-19 they have had to teach the study by Zoom video chats. But the participants love it, anyway. They tell Paula and Tish how much they look forward to their weekly study about Jesus. Last night’s highlight was the delivery of the bouquet in mid-Zoom. Everybody got a kick out of it!

I got to thinking: oooh. It kind of looks like the end times out there – the stuff of Matthew 24. As in, the Rapture must be imminent. That’s the big event that Bible scholars believe will kick off the end of the age. Lord Jesus will collect “the elect” – everyone who believes in Him and tries to live by the Bible’s precepts – and literally spirit them up to heaven. Then our world will become a World of Bad. You do not want to still be here during that time. Tish and Paula will have their tickets punched, no doubt, because of the wonderful things they’re doing with their time here on Earth.

I believe in the Rapture but am not exactly sure how it all will happen. But learning about these two heroic women and their Bible study for special needs Christians gave me a reality check. What will I be “caught” doing when the Rapture comes? The Bible says it’ll happen in the blink of an eye. What will that freeze-frame show me doing?!? Something good? Something for the Lord? Or. . . .

There are all kinds of obvious sins that I sure don’t want to be doing, much less caught doing. But more likely, I could be sneaking a frozen Snickers out of the freezer . . . for the 24th time that day when I’m supposed to be on a diet . . . and discarding the wrappers in my bathroom wastebasket so my family won’t see them. Guilty! I could be gossiping, when I know that’s very hurtful and wrong. Double guilty! I could be buying a FIFTH pickleball skirt when I only really need the first one I bought. Triple greedy guilty!

I’m thankful to Tish and Paula. I’m en-RAPTURED with their devotion . . . but also reminded that there’s literally no time like the present to clean up my act.

Then shall two be in the field;

the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Two women shall be grinding at the mill;

the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

–Matthew 24:40-42
